Bring back Office 2003
There have been a few high-profile cases this year of computer manufacturers bowing to customer demands and ceasing their hard-sell tactics of Windows Vista in favour of the more stable and user-friendly Windows XP.
We have approximately 30 desktop PCs running Windows XP Pro, a majority on Office XP and some newer machines on Office 2003. We do not want, and cannot afford, to upgrade to Office 2007. So why can’t we find anyone willing to sell Office 2003?
I have tried all of the big names and everyone has either discontinued it, or is simply unable to get supplies. I suggested to the PC World business customer service agent that he officially log the complaint, as that is surely the only way to turn the tide – with a swell of outspoken customers. His response said it all: “We get a lot of people saying that.”

It is my understanding that Microsoft allows you to downgrade current edition software such as Vista and Office 2007 to the previous versions. The biggest difficulty with this is often getting hold of licence keys and media for the older versions. In theory you should be able to get these from Microsoft themselves, but this can be difficult.
In my expereience larger providers are not in a position to offer this sort of help to customers who represent only a marginal part of their business. If you are having problems then the best bet is often to contact smaller UK based OEM manufacturers who are flexible enough to help. It is manufacturers such as Evesham Technology who can provide this sort of tailored customer service within the Microsoft rules.
